Sex Is God’s Idea
Sex Is God’s Idea
In today’s culture, the topic of sex often comes with controversy, confusion, and even shame. But here’s the truth that many overlook: sex is not a sin when it’s embraced in the setting God designed. In fact, sex was God’s idea from the very beginning.
Sex: Holy by Design
Jesus affirmed the sacred origin of sex in Matthew 19:4-6, reminding us of God’s original plan: “At the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’...‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’” This union, sealed in the covenant of marriage, is where sex belongs—and it’s something beautiful, not shameful.
When God created humanity as male and female (Genesis 1:27), He designed us as sexual beings with purpose. His command to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28) is impossible without sexual intimacy. From the start, God built sex into the blueprint of creation—not as something dirty, but as something divine.
The Beauty of Intimacy in Marriage
The Bible may not use the modern word “sex,” but it celebrates the act of physical love within marriage. Just read Song of Solomon, a poetic depiction of romantic and physical love between a husband and wife. Chapter 4 paints a sensual, respectful picture of love, followed by God’s stamp of approval in Song of Solomon 5:1: “Eat, friends, and drink; drink your fill of love.”
Sex within marriage is God’s gift—a way to express love, build trust, and share intimacy. It’s a divine blend of pleasure and purpose.
When Sex Becomes Sin
Sex outside of God’s design, however, brings consequences. Hebrews 13:4 commands us to keep the marriage bed pure. Sex outside marriage—whether it’s fornication, adultery, or any sexual immorality—is clearly warned against in Scripture. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and 1 Thessalonians 4:3 make it plain: those who live in sexual immorality cannot expect to walk in God’s blessing.
God’s commands are not about restriction—they’re about protection. Imagine a world where biblical sexual ethics were upheld: fewer STDs, fewer abortions, fewer broken homes, and more children growing up with both parents. God’s way brings healing, not harm.
Why This Message Matters Today
Abstinence until marriage isn’t old-fashioned—it’s life-giving. It elevates the value of sex, protects the heart and body, and ultimately honors the Creator. God’s boundaries aren’t about shame. They’re about love, safety, and joy.
Let’s be bold in reclaiming the truth: Sex is not a sin—it’s sacred. In the context of marriage between one man and one woman, it’s a powerful, holy bond. Let’s teach that truth, live it out, and celebrate God’s incredible design.
